Navajo
Mountain
2010
Rainbow Bridge from below. This is the end of one
of the greatest hikes in Utah.
Jack O'Keefe climbs out of a canyon en route
to Rainbow Bridge.
The trail goes through some tortured terrain.
Fossilized coral, 100 million years old, juts
from the sandstone.
All the desert flowers were in bloom in May 2010.
The country north of Navajo Mountain is rugged.
Navajo Mountain rises dramatically from the desert.
The Henry Mountains are visible looking north from the Navajo Mountain trail.
Here's Kirk with his lifelong friends Troy and Gil Gillenwater, with Rainbow Bridge in the
background. The hike ends here. We took a Lake Powell tour boat back to Page.
Troy readies
the cook fire for
the burritos that
we always
seem to eat on
these outings.
Not that I'm
complaining.
There is
nothing better
on the trail than
a campfire
burrito.
