Salt Lake City Utah properties are some of the most diverse in the valley, and Sugar
House is home to some of the finest old homes. Click on the photos below to find
out more about the various styles, where they are found and what quirks you might
find during a home inspection. On homes built before 1950, you should ask whether
the main water line has been replaced. If not, it could be due to break. You can find
these home styles in most Sugarhouse neighborhoods, though some are more
common in certain areas than others. For instance, the Harvard/Yale area is known
for its big Tudors, while big ramblers with walkout basements are mainly found in
Oak Hills/St. Marys. The Canyon Rim rambler is found in (surprise!) Canyon rim,
though lots of similar homes were built farther south in East Millcreek and Holladay.
You won't find many cottages in the older areas of Sugar House. The little brick
boxes were built by the thousands after World War II, mostly in Upper Sugar House.
Bungalows are found throughout the area; most were built west of 1500 East.

A general note on furnaces
In your your search of homes in the
Sugar House area of Salt Lake City,
you will encounter all manner of
furnaces. Some will be bigger than
your refrigerator and older than your
parents. Don't freak out. Some of
these are the best furnaces ever
made. They aren't super-efficient, but
neither are they as high-maintenance
as modern models. Get the thing
inspected before you assume you
need a new one.
